Live and study in Sevilla

Sevilla Seville is a city situated in the north west of the Iberian Peninsula and the capital of Andalusia. The city counts 699,144 inhabitants. Seville is the fourth biggest city in Spain in terms of population.

The city has a rich culture. Because of the events that took place in the past it is prestigious and has an extensive heritage. It is one of the most valued cities by tourists in Europe. Its numerous monuments, artists, who were born or worked in the city, its glorious history, and its traditional festivities but as well the climate, have contributed to its popularity.

The motto of Seville is NO 8 DO. The 8 represents a streak of wool. The sentence is read as follows: no madejo do, concentration of Na me ha dejada (He did not allow me to do it). This refers to King Alfonso X. the manner. He is the one who was expelled from its power by its son Sanche, Sanche IV., in 1282 and escaped to Seville. It was one of the few cities that remained faithful to his crown and not to the one of his rebellious son. He died in 1284 here. The motto can be found on the urban flag.

Seville has a perfect location, as it can be amplified to the exterior. The river Guadalquivir runs through the city to the Andalusian capital. In the first place the city was built next to the river; the importance can be seen in its history. This main communications route made a flourishing trade that still runs today. Since 1948 the river was deflected in another direction to avoid flooding. Now it runs along the eastern part of the city.
Seville is dominated by the plain of Guadalquivir, the Seville farmland. This big corrugated area is used for many centuries because of its fertility, which has also contributed to the wealth of the country. Cereal cropping, hydrangeas, olives cultivation and also cattle raising (wild bulls in particular), haven’t stopped the development of these soils that encourage the region still today.

Seville benefits from a Mediterranean climate with some continental influences. Its location apart from the sea on the area of Guadalquivir, allows enjoying the mild climate all year long. However Seville experiences long and hot summers, with temperatures that climb on the average up to 25°C degrees or higher from May to October. The top temperatures are reached between June and September, in a period in which the Mercury passes the barrier of 30 °C. The record high was 43.3°C, while the minus record is -5°C. There are 64 days of rain in Seville per year.
